Internet Kicks Double Fine to the Moon

After looking at Double Fine’s kickstarter page for their new project, “Double Fine Adventure” this afternoon, all I can say is, holy crap.  Their goal, $400k, was raised in 8 hours, and as of right now they have $978,000 (and still rising).  Someone REALLY wanted to have lunch with Tim Schafer.

Now they just have to make the game.  No pressure or anything.

But you’d have to have a cold charcoal heart not to be feel a little moved by this.  One of those rare cases where the internet actually does right.  Like a flower blooming in a big pile of shit.

Says a lot about the value of having a known presence as a game creator.  I hesitate to use the phrase “celebrity”, but Tim Schafer is one of those handful of people that fit the bill, at least in the video game microcosm.  Not that this is any great epiphany, but I don’t think this kind of fund raising success would be possible without it.  Even rarer than the internet not being a dick?  A developer who’s famous for being outspoken but not a egotistical jerk, and making games that people have generally liked.
